The Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program is accepting applications from U.S. teachers and administrators interested in working and teaching abroad during the 2009-10 academic year. The program is unique in its one-for-one exchange of teachers: In most cases, both teachers secure a leave of absence with pay from their home schools and then trade classrooms for the year.

Countries offering teacher exchanges for the 2009-10 year include Czech Republic, France, Ghana, Greece, Hungary, India, Italy, Mexico, South Africa, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Most exchanges occur for an academic year.

Opportunities are available for teachers and administrators from K-12 schools, community colleges and universities. Eligibility requirements include:

  • at least a bachelor’s degree;
  • a current full-time teaching or administrative position;
  • at least three years of full-time teaching experience; fluency in English;
  • a valid U.S. passport and U.S. citizenship

In addition, the applicant also must meet country-specific subject, level and language requirements detailed in the application. For a list of requirements, participating countries and an application, visit the website.
