No fraud related to April 2011 data breach has been reported

As reported by the Austin American-Statesman, the Texas comptroller's office has seen no evidence that the personal data of millions of Texas public employees left exposed on an unsecure server earlier this year has been misused.

The article published on Aug. 23, 2011, notes that the Texas attorney general is continuing an investigation of the data breach.

The incident occurred in April 2011, when files transferred from the Teacher Retirement System, Employees Retirement System, and Texas Workforce Commission were improperly handled by staff at the comptroller's office. The "Texas Safeguard" website maintained by the agency includes more information, including resources to help affected individuals protect themselves against potential identity theft or fraud.
