Confusion over how end-of-course grades will count may not be addressed by TEA
The Dallas Morning News is reporting that the Texas Education Agency does not intend to provide clarification to districts regarding the new law requiring that end-of-course (EOC) exams count as 15 percent of a student's course grade. Many district administrators are concerned about how to properly implement the law, given that most districts issue semester grades rather than final course grades. The issue has implications for teacher grading, student GPAs and class rankings.
According to the article (available here to DMN subscribers), TEA notified districts that the agency "is not planning to provide a method by which scale scores can be converted into grading systems because of wide variations in grading policy from district to district."
