Suzanne McCall appointed to State Board for Educator Certification

TCTA District 17 Director Suzanne Garcia McCall of Slaton has been appointed to the State Board for Educator Certification. McCall, a third grade teacher at Thomas Elementary School in the Slaton Independent School District, has been a member of TCTA since 1997 and serves as president of the Slaton CTA.  

The SBEC regulates and oversees all aspects of the preparation, certification, and standards of conduct of public school educators. It comprises 14 members, including 11 voting members appointed by the governor. Among the 11 voting members are four classroom teachers (including McCall), one counselor, two administrators and four citizens. She joins the board as former TCTA state president Janie Baszile of Galena Park leaves the SBEC board after a six-year term. Baszile currently represents District 4 on the TCTA Directors' Council.

McCall's term will expire Feb. 1, 2017. Her appointment to the SBEC board is subject to Senate confirmation.
