Paraprofessionals

Educational aides and other paraprofessionals are invaluable to schools across Texas. Many take on instructional responsibilities and tutoring in addition to helping with classroom management and lesson preparation. Some districts limit the use of aides to certain areas, such as assisting with special education students, working in bilingual classrooms or helping to supervise very large classes (such as P.E.); others provide aides to help teachers in the regular classroom. TCTA welcomes educational aides (as well as substitute teachers, school secretaries and other paraprofessionals) as Associate-level members.

Becoming an educational aide

Like classroom teachers, educational aides also receive certification. You must first be employed by a school district in Texas before being eligible to apply for an Educational Aide certificate. Contact your employing school district for application instructions.
