A group headed by former House Public Education Chairman Kent Grusendorf has filed a motion to intervene in the school finance litigation that has been filed in Travis County District Court. The Texans for Real Efficiency and Equity in Education has asked to be a part of the school finance lawsuit in order to argue that public schools can be made more efficient by the creation of additional charter schools and by deregulating all public schools so they function more like charter schools. The lawsuit specifically refers to Chapter 21, teacher rights and benefits, and complains about past teacher salary increases as an example of inefficient uses of school funding.
