Dr. Catherine Bridges, principal of Grand Prairie ISD’s Juan Seguin Elementary School, is TCTA's 2012-13 Administrator of the Year (elementary school category). TCTA annually presents its Administrator of the Year Award to recognize exemplary leaders in Texas public schools.

Bridges was nominated by Grand Prairie CTA, a local affiliate of the statewide TCTA. In the nomination, Grand Prairie CTA leaders praised Bridges for her open-door policy and welcoming attitude toward both school staff and parents. “She encourages you to come and talk to her about anything and everything,” the nomination stated. “Her reply is always that you are never bothering her and ‘What can I help you with?’”

Bridges has served Grand Prairie ISD for her entire 12-year career in public education. Prior to becoming principal of Seguin Elementary, she was assistant principal of Daniels Academy. Bridges began her career in education as a 5th grade teacher at LBJ Elementary and also taught 9th and 10th grade English at Grand Prairie High School. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington and her doctorate in education from Walden University.

“I am honored to have been chosen for this prestigious award,” Bridges says. “It reaffirms that I am accomplishing a small, but very important, part of my job, which is supporting my teachers. I am truly the biggest fan of the teachers and students at Seguin Elementary. They are the real winners.”

TCTA honored Bridges and other award winners Jan. 24, 2013, at an awards banquet during the TCTA Convention in Austin. Watch video of Bridges accepting the award.
