Mycah Glover
Energy Reporter
KMID Big 2 Midland

TCTA selected Mycah Glover, energy reporter for KMID Big 2 Midland, as a recipient of its 2012-13 Silver Apple Media Award for excellence in education reporting. Glover, who won in the broadcast category, was nominated by Midland CTA, a local affiliate of the statewide TCTA.

Midland CTA nominated Glover for the TCTA media award for her efforts both on and offscreen. “Mycah is a great believer in helping children read, so in her free time she is on the Midland Reading Council,” the nomination stated. “She is one of the only non-teachers, promoting literacy, reading to children, and donating books for needy children, families and nonprofit organizations. She also incorporates education of our children into her reporting.”

The awards committee reviewed several samples of Glover’s recent work and praised it for providing an “in-depth view of how a community comes together to support students.”

Glover started with Big 2 Midland as an evening news anchor in 2006, when she began her career in broadcast news. She earned her bachelor’s degree in convergence journalism with an emphasis in broadcast from Southern Methodist University, where she reported, anchored and produced for SMU TV and interned at Dallas’ Fox 4 News.

“I am extremely honored to receive the Silver Apple Media Award, especially since it is in the field of education,” Glover says. “After all, education makes possible all intelligent and informed communication, which is my job as a journalist.”

TCTA honored Glover and other award winners Jan. 24, 2013, at an awards banquet during the TCTA Convention in Austin. Watch video of Glover being recognized at the banquet.
