Flo Touchstone, principal of Evans Middle School in Lubbock ISD, is the 2012-13 TCTA Administrator of the Year in the middle/secondary school category. TCTA presents its Administrator of the Year Award annually to recognize exemplary leaders in Texas public schools.

Touchstone was nominated for the award by Lubbock CTA, a local affiliate of the statewide TCTA. In its nomination of Touchstone, Lubbock CTA praised her for her organizational skills and her ability to bring people together.

“The word ‘strong’ is an understatement to describe Flo Touchstone and her instructional leadership qualities,” the nomination stated. “One of her best decisions was to use the feedback of teachers and parents to create a new mission, vision and value statement for Evans Middle School. … This decision has fostered a sense of community, learning and achievement for the students, parents and faculty.”

Touchstone, who has served as principal of Evans Middle School since July 2011, has worked in Lubbock ISD since 1992. Previously she served as an assistant and associate principal at Lubbock High School. Touchstone began her career in education as a home economics teacher in 1978 in Olton ISD. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas Tech University.

TCTA honored Touchstone and other award winners Jan. 24, 2013, at an awards banquet during the TCTA Convention in Austin. Watch video of Touchstone accepting the award.
