Anita Evans, a 3rd grade teacher at Waters Elementary in Lubbock ISD, has been named the 2012-13 TCTA Leader of the Year. TCTA annually presents the Leader of the Year Award to a TCTA member for exceptional service and commitment, leadership and a unique ability for leading local TCTA efforts.

Lubbock CTA, an affiliate of the statewide TCTA, nominated Evans for this award for her long history of assisting her fellow teachers, including arranging meetings with administrators and writing letters to the school board to help find solutions to challenges her colleagues faced.

The nomination also praised Evans for her dedication to her students. “She feels that being an educator is not a job but a vocation,” it stated.

A TCTA member since she began teaching in 1979, Evans has served Lubbock CTA in nearly every available leadership role and attended at least 20 TCTA state conventions.

TCTA honored Evans and other award winners Jan. 24, 2013, at an awards banquet during the TCTA Convention in Austin. Watch video of Evans accepting the award.
