Pictured: Grace with her husband John, daughter Jennifer and son Chris. The Muellers like to cook together at tailgates and game dinners, where they prepare all kinds of game — from alligator to javelina.

Born: Columbus, Ohio, while her father was at seminary

Raised: New Orleans, La., where she was in band and marched in Mardi Gras parades

College: Texas Lutheran College (now University) in Seguin, her father’s alma mater

Married: John Mueller, a successful 18-wheeler salesman and avid hunter, and “a patient and supporting teacher’s husband”

First career: 10 years as a job coach for mentally challenged adults

Certification: Southwest Texas University (now Texas State University-San Marcos), with special ed endorsement

Began teaching: after she had her son and “it’s just been a delight”

Children: Chris, 30, and Jennifer, 26, who she calls the true joy of her life, enjoying them as adults and friends

“Extra” children: Sasha and Mocha, lake-loving Labrador retrievers, as well as two cats, two geese (Ozzie and Harriet), and numerous wood ducks and birds

Loves to: go on hunting trips with her husband (or travel anywhere!), entertain at the lake

Most memorable adventure: three days waiting for a hunting guide in a cabin in Alaska with little food and water, a fire in the floor, and a bear that shook the cabin walls!

Lives: in an old family house once owned by John’s grandfather on the lake near Seguin — “a fun place to be” with a pontoon boat, kayaks and lots of family and friends around

Community involvement: along with her father, helping to start a new mission church called Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church, where the focus is on reaching out to the needs of the community
