On Dec. 9, 2013, TEA posted for public comment the most recent version of the rules that will govern the Foundation High School Program when implemented in 2014-15.

In November 2013, the State Board of Education revised the draft rules. The updated rules require high school students to take Algebra II only if pursuing the STEM endorsement or distinguished level of achievement. They also allow school districts to decide if they want to require a speech class.

The public comment period on the rules ends Dec. 20. Educators and others may submit comments to rules@tea.state.tx.us by that deadline.

The SBOE will consider the input received during the comment period and take a final vote on the rules at the board's Jan. 28-31, 2014, meeting.
