The TRS Board of Trustees approved premiums and plan changes for ActiveCare for 2016-17. Overall, premiums will increase by less than 3 percent, though that varies between the three levels of coverage. See the current and new rates, along with benefit changes, below. Note that the costs listed in the charts below do not include state and district contributions - the actual amount paid by the employee will be lower.

For this lowest level of coverage, which has become the most popular option, premium rates will not change. Maximum out-of-pocket limits will increase from the current $6,450 (individual) and $12,900 (family) to $6,550 and $13,100. For certain maintenance drugs, the co-insurance will be waived, in an attempt to encourage plan participants to take necessary medications.

Rates for the highest level of coverage will increase 5 percent. Maximum out-of-pocket limits will increase from $6,600 (individual) and $13,200 (family) to $6,850 and $13,700.

For all levels, there will be an increase in the co-pays for maintenance drugs bought through retail pharmacies instead of mail-order, to encourage members to purchase drugs through the mail-order program.
