The Senate confirmed the appointment of Josh McGee in April as chair of the Texas Pension Review Board. McGee’s appointment had been controversial because of his history as a strong proponent of converting public pensions to defined contribution/401(k)-style plans.

The Senate Nominations Committee voted in March to forward his nomination to the full Senate, but Senate Democrats had blocked final confirmation (which requires a two-thirds majority vote of the Senate). The vote — 20-10 along partisan lines — was taken while one Democrat was absent.
