TCTA honored six people for their outstanding contributions to public education, the teaching profession and/or TCTA during the 2017-18 school year:

  • Friend of Education, Public Official: State Rep. Dan Huberty, chairman of the House Public Education Committee
  • Leader of the Year: Cary Fulgham, a TCTA member since 2014 and a digital learning coach in Lubbock ISD
  • Faculty Representative of the Year: Jennifer Thomason, a TCTA member since 2011 and an eighth-grade math teacher at OL Slaton Middle School in Lubbock ISD
  • Paraprofessional of the Year: Sally Tobias, a TCTA member since 1983 and a teacher’s aide at McWhorter Elementary School in Lubbock ISD
  • Administrator of the Year: Damon McCall, principal of OL Slaton Middle School in Lubbock ISD
  • Silver Apple Media Award: Julie Chang, an education reporter at the Austin American-Statesman
