SB 820

Status: Sent to governor
Author: Sen. Jane Nelson
Sponsor: Rep. Morgan Meyer
Summary: Requires districts to adopt a cybersecurity policy to secure district cyberinfrastructure against cyber attacks and other cyber security incidents, and determine cybersecurity risk and implement mitigation planning. The policy may not conflict with information security standards for institutions of higher education adopted by the Department of Information Resources. The superintendent shall designate a cybersecurity coordinator to serve as a liaison between the district and TEA in cybersecurity matters. The coordinator must report to TEA any cyber attack or other incident against the cyberinfrastructure that constitutes a breach of system security as soon as practicable after the discovery of the incident. The coordinator must also provide notice to parents in the district of an incident for which a report is required that involves their child's information.
