What’s going on with TRS?

TRS continues to operate as usual, except that employees are working remotely and in-person counseling sessions have been canceled or replaced with phone or remote video conferences. You can still schedule a retirement counseling session by calling 800-223-8778.

The plunging stock market has undoubtedly hit the pension fund hard, but this fund operates on a long-term basis and has rebounded well from previous economic recessions. Retiree benefits are not in danger at this time.

TRS has provided the following information about health insurance benefits related to the COVID-19 pandemic through ActiveCare, TRS-Care Standard, and TRS-Care Medicare Advantage. (It also released this video.)

TRS-ActiveCare plan, Aetna and CVS Caremark will provide the following to all participants:

  • Waived costs for all diagnostic testing of COVID-19 for patients who meet CDC guidelines (ask your provider to make sure you qualify).
  • $0 TRS Virtual Health visits through Teladoc for any health need.
  • Free home delivery of all prescription medications. See CVS’ FAQ for more details.
  • Care packages – if you or your family members contract COVID-19 – containing over-the-counter medications to alleviate symptoms and household cleaning supplies to help protect other household members from possible exposure.
  • Refills for maintenance medications before a 30-day prescription is up (eligible 90-day refills strongly encouraged).
  • CVS Health has activated a process to allow for 10-14 day overrides when appropriate, for members in areas where a Declaration of Emergency has been issued.
  • Access to the following programs:
    • Crisis Response Lines for participants who may be experiencing anxiety related to COVID-19 (coming soon).
    • Expanded 24/7 access to the Aetna Nurse Medical Line.
    • Resources for Living toolkit with materials specifically developed for members experiencing anxiety related to COVID-19. For more information contact the Aetna Resources for Living at 1-833-327-2386.

TRS-Care Medicare Participants (Humana)

Humana and SilverScript will provide the following to all participants:

  • Waived medical co-pays for all diagnostic testing relating to COVID-19.
  • $0 TRS Virtual Health visits through MDLive for any urgent care needs over the next 90 days.
  • Specialized support from Humana to help you with specific COVID-19 questions and concerns, including live assistance with telemedicine. Call 1-800-320-9566 for more information. 
  • Refills for maintenance medications before a 30-day prescription is up (strongly encouraged).

Employees with other health insurance coverage should contact your school district or the insurance provider to see if similar benefits are being offered.
