Groups of teachers can apply to TEA to earn stipends for piloting Texas Home Learning instructional materials, which are designed for both in-person and remote learning. Although THL instructional materials are free for any school to use, pilot participants will receive $500 or $1,000 stipends, remote learning training and ongoing coaching support, and extra materials for text sets, including manipulatives (if piloting a THL-recommended unit).

Districts, schools or groups of participating teachers can design the pilot, as long as it includes a minimum of one grade level at one school with one THL unit. District- or schoolwide rollout is not required. Applications are now being accepted on a rolling basis through January 2021 for the spring 2021 pilot and can be submitted from a district representative or a school representative with district approval.

One of the requirements for participants is that the school schedule allows for the minimum number of daily recommended instructional minutes to successfully pilot THL products.

Stipend options for teachers include:

  • $500 for Baseline activities. Time commitment: Pilot materials in class,  attend professional development,  provide feedback.  Specifically, must participate in onboarding training (estimated 2-3 days), ongoing day -to- day virtual support and 1-2 days additional virtual training, 2 ½ -6- week pilot of unit, weekly feedback surveys, debrief discussion, and submission of unit results.
  • $1000 for baseline activities plus an estimated 6-8 additional hours, consisting of providing annotated lesson plans twice during pilot, videos of lessons twice during pilot, sample student work (3-5 students three times during pilot), and distributing/collecting student waiver forms for videos.
