The House and Senate are both expected to consider major parts of Gov. Greg Abbott's agenda on Saturday, including a school finance plan in the Senate. (The Saturday calendar was not yet official when this update was posted.) The House calendar includes property tax reform legislation and a bill relating to do not resuscitate (DNR) orders.

The Senate State Affairs Committee is holding a Saturday afternoon hearing on Rep. Drew Darby's HB 80, a bill that puts a process in place for allowing TRS to provide retirees with a cost-of-living adjustment when the system is in a financial condition that can accommodate the raise. At this time, no benefit increase would be possible under the bill, but the new authority would allow TRS to provide the increase when feasible, rather than having to wait until the legislature was in session (current law requires specific legislation to authorize a benefit increase).
