With only 2.5 weeks left in the session, final decisions on the priority bills of this session will come down to the wire (as is nearly always the case with major legislation).

  • HB 1, the state budget, remains in conference committee, with no public indications of how negotiations are going.
  • HB 3, school finance reform, passed the Senate this week, and an initial organizational meeting of the conference committee was held Friday morning. Among the major areas of difference between the House and Senate are teacher compensation, merit/differentiated pay, and outcomes-based funding.
  • SB 12, the bill to increase contributions to the TRS pension fund and provide retirees with a 13th check, has passed the House and Senate. The Senate has requested the appointment of a conference committee to resolve differences between the House and Senate versions.
  • SB 2, the property tax reform bill, has gone to conference committee.
