The Texas Education Code requires certification of public school teachers. Texas educators with standard certificates, which replaced lifetime certificates in 1999, must renew them every five years by earning a minimum number of continuing professional education (CPE) hours. CPE providers must be approved by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC), which oversees state teacher certification standards and educator preparation, as well as disciplinary procedures and an educator code of ethics.

TCTA, an SBEC-approved CPE provider, offers our members free online CPE.
