The Teacher Retirement System of Texas administers the TRS pension fund and health insurance programs for active and retired school employees. During the years, TCTA has worked with TRS and the Legislature to increase benefits with TCTA-initiated improvements ranging from TRS-Care retiree health insurance to the retirement eligibility Rule of 80. TCTA provides our members with information on issues relating to retirement, Social Security and health insurance.

A series of changes made to TRS and its benefit structure have occurred in recent legislative sessions. The 2013 session included major revisions that will affect current school employees in varying ways.
