Every year, thousands of TCTA members benefit from our legal services, which our experienced attorneys handle with an eye toward problem-solving, not publicity.

TCTA’s experienced legal staff can answer employment-related questions and help protect your rights and benefits — but only if you are a member before the problem arises.

TCTA’s legal protection package includes:
  • The most comprehensive professional liability insurance policy available to Texas teachers
  • Member access to experienced lawyers — not union reps or paralegals — for employment-related legal problems
  • Best lawyer-to-member ratio
  • Statewide network of lawyers
TCTA members also benefit from:
  • Exclusive membership for those who work directly with students — no administrators
  • Affordable annual member dues
  • Top-ranked teacher lobby team working to improve TRS and health insurance benefits
  • Discounts on hotels, entertainment, and more
You need TCTA when...
  • You’re not getting support with a serious disciplinary issue
  • You’re reassigned to a subject you’re not certified to teach
  • You’re falsely charged with a crime at school
  • You’re injured while breaking up a fight
  • You receive an appraisal that you believe is unfair or inaccurate
  • You’re told to change a student’s grade
  • You need to respond to a parent complaint
  • Your paycheck has been miscalculated and it will affect your retirement benefits
When you join TCTA, your dues remain in Texas, where they support Texas teachers and public schools. To receive member benefits, you must be eligible for TCTA membership and join in the appropriate membership category.

Membership in TCTA is open only to classroom teachers and other non-administrative professionals working directly with students.

Membership in TCTA is open to the following:
  • Classroom teacher
  • Counselor
  • Librarian
  • Diagnostician
  • Speech pathologist
  • Social worker
  • School nurse
  • Athletic trainer
  • Coach
  • Other nonsupervisory professional whose position does not require an administrative certificate
  • Anyone who holds a bachelor's degree, is pursuing teacher certification, and is a salaried teacher in a Texas public school
